Spreadsheet AI uses natural language processing and powerful AI models to generate different types of content, from entire new workbooks to spreadsheet formulas. Enter a description of what you want, and Spreadsheet.com will generate it for you in seconds – it’s that simple.
In this guide, we’ll take a look at using Spreadsheet AI to generate spreadsheet formulas with just a description of a desired calculation.
Generate Formula with AI lets you ask Spreadsheet.com to write a formula on your behalf. You can access it within any worksheet cell that can otherwise include a formula. Double-click on the cell, type “=/”, and the Generate Formula with AI dialog will open below the cell.
Asking Spreadsheet.com to generate a formula is as easy as describing the calculation you need. Keep it simple ( “Return the sum of [Column A] and [Column B]”), or make it complex (“Find the absolute difference between the average of A1:B10 and C1:C10, and multiply it by [Column D]”).
Once you write your query, click the “Generate” button and Spreadsheet.com will create a formula on your behalf. Review the AI-generated formula at the bottom of the Generate Formula with AI dialog. If you don’t get the result you expect or encounter an error, try rewording your query and clicking “Regenerate”.
Now that you have an AI-generated formula that suits your needs, all you have to do is click the “Keep” button to retain the formula in the cell. Even though it’s AI-generated, your new formula works exactly like other formulas you’ve written, meaning you can manually edit it as needed.
You can also opt to turn your AI-generated formula into a column formula by clicking the “Set as Column Formula” button. Learn more about working with the Column Formula data type in our Help Center.
